A stretchy leaf stitch vest perfect for the summer time!

This summer cotton tank is knitted in one piece from the bottom up in the round and finished with matching straps. A stretchy knit will really flatter your figure. No extra trimming needed as edges are integrated into this knit. Only straps have seams at their top.

RECOMMENDED NEEDLES

24-29" US #6 or 7 (4-4.5 mm) circular needle

Short US #6 or 7 (4-4.5 mm) straight needles

s2kp: (centered double decrease or centered k3tog): slip 2 sts together knit-wise

as if to work k2tog, knit next st and pass both slipped sts together over st just knit.

s2kp alternative: slip 2 sts together knit-wise as if to work k2tog, turn right needle towards left needle and slip both sts this way back to left needle, then knit them together with next (3rd) st inserting right needle through 3rd st knit-wise.

Using circular needle, cast on 168 [196] sts, place st marker and join to work in the round.

Rounds 1 and 2: *k9, p5; repeat from * to end of round.

Round 3: *ssk, k5, k2tog, p2, yo, k1, yo, p2; repeat from * to end of round.

Round 4: *k7, p2, k1, p1, k1, p2; repeat from * to end of round.

Round 5: *ssk, k3, k2tog, p2, k1, yo, k1, yo, k1, p2; repeat from * to end of round.

Round 6: *k5, p2, k2, p1, k2, p2; repeat from * to end of round.

Round 7: *ssk, k1, k2tog, p2, k1, yo, k3, yo, k1, p2; repeat from * to end of round.

Round 8: *k3, p2, k3, p1, k3, p2; repeat from * to end of round.

DIVIDING into UPPER FRONT and BACK

 

The upper front and back are worked in rows with same circular needle or same size straight needles.

The shape of 'leaves' continues up with garter edging.

Right side: odd rows; wrong side: even rows.

After last round 82, continue next round as row 1.

Row 1 (right side): bind off 9 [23] sts purl-wise (for underarm) and begin the upper front:

leave 1 st (pulled from last bound-off st) as selvage st on right needle (do not knit it), k4 (garter edge),

(following sts continue leaf pattern) fc, k5, bc, (p5, fc, k5, bc) 4 times, k4 (garter edge), ktbl.

Place remaining sts (for other underarm and back) onto waste yarn to have them on hold.

 

UPPER FRONT

 

Row 2 (wrong side): slp, k5, p7, *(k1, k2tog) twice, k1, p7, repeat from * to last 6 sts, k5, ktbl.

Row 3: slp, k4, p1, fc, k3, bc, *p5, fc, k3, bc, repeat from * to last 6 sts, p1, k4, ktbl.

Row 4: slp, k6, p5, *(k1, k2tog) twice, k1, p5; repeat from * to last 7 sts, k6, ktbl.

Row 5: slp, k4, p2, fc, k1, bc, *p5, fc, k1, bc, repeat from * to last 7 sts, p2, k4, ktbl.

Each strap has 19 sts.

Place the right strap sts onto waste yarn or holder now if using circular needle or after next row if using straight needles.

 

FRONT LEFT STRAP

 

Work the left strap:

Row 13 (right side): slp, k4, k2tog, k1, yo, k3, yo, k1, ssk, k4, ktbl.

Row 14 (wrong side): slp, k4, p4, k1, p4, k4, ktbl.

Row 15: slp, k7, yo, s2kp, yo, k7, ktbl.

Work it in same manner as the left strap (rows 13-39).

 

UPPER BACK

 

Place the back and underarm sts onto needle.

Work same as the upper front (rows 1-39).

 

FINISHING

 

Wet block, flattening the bottom edging with pins.

Sew strap seams with mattress stitch.
